In 2005 the city was devastated by the hurricane Katrina which flooded the notorious ninth ward, making residents homeless and wrecking destruction to the city. Today, the city is still rebuilding and recovering. Although the majority of residents of the ninth ward moved elsewhere but the spirit of this city has not was abandoned and it is now more vibrant than ever thanks to its numerous festivities like Mardi Gras, the Jazz Festival and the year-round celebrations that make it a great place to visit.
